I just can't seem to make it through the week without being smacked upside the head with another bizarre piece of news from the Trudeau Liberals. It's not even like I'm looking for these. Well okay, sometimes I am. But still, these things just seem to find me, regardless. I’ve been reading through Tom Quiggin’s book, “Eyewitness to Deceit”. Fascinating. Other than that the cover looks super cheesy and it seems like it was put together in a bit of a hurry, it's a great read. The info is solid and there's tons of references, so it's easy to verify pretty much everything in the book. Also, it's just an easy read. The reason I mention it, is because one of the articles referenced in the book was one I remembered reading a couple years ago in the Ottawa Citizen:
Canadian military wants to establish new organization to use propaganda, other techniques to influence Canadians
The headline sounds like something from a dystopian fiction novel. Well, I strongly suggest that you read it if you haven't yet, because trust me - it's not just the headline.
If you don't have time to read it, that's fine because I'm going to summarize it here anyway, but at least you can refer to it if you want to.
The article is from 2020, and I remember reading it at the time and thinking, “What the actual FUUUCK is really going on in this country?”
My, how much more sense these things make with the passage of time. Context (as always) is everything, so let's add some, shall we?
This was from 2020 and they were talking about a "new organization that will use propaganda and other techniques to try to influence the attitudes, beliefs and behaviours of Canadians."
Of course they were. The office of Harjit Sajjan, who was at the time our Minister of Defense quickly piped up and said “No such plan has been approved, nor will it be.”
Riiiight…
Nevermind that they had already been testing these techniques on the Canadian public. Don't be concerned about the fact that Chief of the Defence Staff Gen. Jon Vance referred to it as the “weaponization” of the military’s public affairs branch. Also, please don't worry about the monitoring and collection of information from people's Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts. Twitter Files, anyone?
Please just keep in mind that, “No such plan has been approved, nor will it be.”
Of course, this was back in November of 2020 and we had already been dealing with a veritable cringefest of vaccine propaganda and just general Covid propaganda for a good six months. That part continues to this day.
Then came Freedom Convoy 2022 and they really hit the ground running. The government, that is. The misinformation around that was one for the record books. By now, most of that shit is common knowledge for those who care, so I'm not going to get into that right now.
One thing that jumped out at me as I was reading it now is the phrase “forged letters from the Nova Scotia government”. Hmmm, you don't say…?
Here's the rest of that quote:
“a bizarre propaganda training mission in which the military forged letters from the Nova Scotia government to warn the public that wolves were wandering in the province.”
Huh. Wolves, eh? Well, I guess that's alright then. I sure wouldn't want to get eaten by wolves. Of course, there never were any wolves, at least no more than on any other year. By the way, this one also involved setting up a loudspeaker to make wolf noises. Yeah, you’ll want to read that one too.
The reason this caught my attention is because of this article from Terry Glavin’s substack:
'Systemic Islamophobia' In Tax Audits. Really?
Yes, this too hinges on forged government documents apparently originating from the federal Liberal government. And this is current. So, you should probably read that one as well.
Terry Glavin, by the way, is one guy you should definitely follow if you don't already. He's one of the guys who helped break the whole “mass graves” fiasco from 2021 and he’not afraid to pick a fight. Also, he doesn't seem to suffer from some of the issues that other journalists have - namely that issue of being completely full of shit. He's old-school and he knows how to get shit done.
Here's another juicy one from that 2020 article. This is Brigadier-General Jay Janzen, director general of military public affairs:
“The motto ‘who dares, wins’ is as applicable to strategic communication as it is to warfare.”
“Daring” is definitely one attribute that this Liberal government has in spades.
Even though Sajjan has said (one more time for those in the back), “No such plan has been approved, nor will it be,” he actually did approve the “weaponization of public affairs initiative”.
The Liberals outlined in their 2017 defence strategy policy the need for the Canadian military to become more involved in propaganda and information warfare.
Now, about that plan that was “not approved” - a strange story from the CBC appeared seven months after that initial story in the Ottawa Citizen:
Military campaign to influence public opinion continued after defence chief shut it down
Really?!
Well, I'm shocked.
Obviously I'm not really shocked or I wouldn't be writing this.
While we're at it, I'll throw one more “oldie but goodie” at you that you may not have heard about. It's odd that, as important as you'd think these things are, they do have a knack of going largely unreported by a large portion of the media.
Liberal minister allegedly backdated documents to mislead court
This article is actually from December, but it's referencing something that took place in 2019. Full points to True North for not forgetting about this. The basic gist of it is that Marco Mendicino backdated documents in order to get out of a copyright violation. Not only that, but when he did it, he screwed up the date.
The notice included a “date modified” entry of April 31, 2017, despite there only being 30 days in April.
Really guys? You go to all this trouble to break the law and try pull one over on the entire country, and you can't even backdate a document without screwing up?
This is the same Liberal minister that doubled down on the whole "The protestors are trying to lock people in their building and burn it down," after the story was already thoroughly debunked.
I've come to hate it when I hear people say, “Wake up!” Probably that's because I feel I am already fully awake to what's going on here, but also because some of the people who say this a lot are also known for saying some other stuff that is pretty questionable (at best). Still, I now find myself wanting to get up on my roof and start screaming that to my neighbors. I'm sure that'll pass soon and I'll just go to bed. I'll likely just settle for social media, but we'll see what tomorrow brings.
In case you haven't noticed yet, there's an obvious pattern here. And it's not good. And if you think that these are the only instances of this rot, then you're way more optimistic than I am. I highly doubt these are even the only ones we know about. These are just the ones that I've noticed. I'm sure there are others that have made the news as well. And then we have the ones that we don't know about…
This whole business brings to mind something I've been saying for a long time, which is that the little things matter. I wrote about this in August in The Natural State of Everything - Why the little things are a big deal. I'm not sure if you consider these to be “little things” or not, but I'm pretty sure they are a big deal, and at any rate, I'm also pretty sure they started out little and guess what - they're only likely to get bigger from here. The whole point of that piece was to say that nothing we have here that's good, will stay good without constant attention and maintenance. Not your house, not your car, not your marriage, or your country. I think it's way past time to do some serious maintenance here. Or better yet, throw it out and get a new one.
I had to chuckle Ken when I read "No such plan has been approved, nor will it be". As if a plan must be approved to be put in place. It's weasely, a bit of double speak sort of, but all too common. Falls into the realm of plausible deniability, I suppose. Or just good old fashioned BS.
I enjoy your posts. I don't agree with everything (and I also don't follow all the issues you raise, so I don't really have an informed opinion on everything), but we do share a sensibility - and your way of expressing is tops. Happy New Year, or at least [Fill In The Blank] New Year.
