Yes, It's Still Possible to be a Proud Canadian

But it hasn't been easy.

Canada is awesome. As much as I complain about the current administration, I really don't know where else I'd rather live. Well, maybe someplace WARM. That would be a good start.

It's been difficult to be a proud Canadian of late, especially when it seems we're supposed to believe that Canada is a genocidal state run by white supremacists. If it were just some weird fringe groups saying this, that would be one thing, but it's not. Our own Prime Minister has said precisely this on several occasions. How does one be proud of that?

How can one be proud of a country that purposely misleads its own citizens with fantastical stories of mass graves filled and hidden by genocidal leaders?

Can one be proud of a country that allows the burning of churches and the tearing down of its founders statues?

I believe I can be because Canada is so much more than small-minded men with ignorant opinions - even if these men are the ones running (or attempting to run) the country. Soon they'll all be gone and relegated to the boards of some dusty non-profit or corporation and we can get on with life as normal here.

I can be proud to be Canadian because it looks like Canadians haven't given up on the reason they came here to begin with, which is to build things and make a better life for their families. Also because we've shown in our own very Canadian way that we're simply not going to take it anymore.

The Freedom Convoy was the ultimate Canadian protest because it was a slow and steady expression of the steadfastness and purpose that built this country from the beginning. It was serious power under control with a smiling face. It was the patient attitude that says, "we'll just sit and wait here a bit for the weather to become more favourable, and then we'll get it done." And they did.

I can also be proud of the fact that though we may be slow to start, once we get moving, we're very hard to stop, and when the leadership consistently refuses to represent the people, the people eventually do something about it.

And it's wonderful to see that in action.
