A New, Green Religion for the Masses
Elemental worship is once again in vogue, and this time it has the stamp of government.
Looking at all the excitement generated by “climate change” and the absolute mouth-frothing zeal with which its imminent disasters are proclaimed, one must wonder if we've truly moved into an enlightened age, or if we have in fact somehow fallen backwards through some strange wormhole to a time when the church ruled the state, and the threat of witches was an ever-present reality. When cries of, “BURN HER!” reverberated through the town square after a mock trial, and justice was exercised by humble townsfolk.
These days it’s, “DENIER!” and the town square is social media, but the spirit is the same one that ruled in those dark ages. Now, though church attendance is at an all-time low, the hearts of mankind still yearn to believe in something bigger and grander than themselves. The act of faith in something one can't possibly understand, and the constant drive to punish the heretic and convert the lost is a daily reality in today's society.
As traditional religion declines, it seems nature is keen to fill the void. At the moment we have a few major, new religions vying for prominence among the common folk.
The one currently winning the race hearkens back to even before those dark days I opened with - the worship of the elements.
Michael Crichton, the late science fiction writer made this comparison:
There’s an initial Eden, a paradise, a state of grace and unity with nature, there’s a fall from grace into a state of pollution as a result of eating from the tree of knowledge, and as a result of our actions there is a judgment day coming for us all. We are all energy sinners, doomed to die, unless we seek salvation, which is now called sustainability. Sustainability is salvation in the church of the environment. Just as organic food is its communion, that pesticide-free wafer that the right people with the right beliefs, imbibe.
In his letter of resignation, Rajendra Pachauri, ex-chairman of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change had this to say:
"For me the protection of Planet Earth, the survival of all species and sustainability of our ecosystems is more than a mission. It is my religion and my dharma."
So yes, a religion it is, and as I mentioned in a previous post, it's the most dangerous kind of religion, because it's a religion that is married to the state and promoted by government. Its most vocal and prominent disciples and evangelists are politicians, celebrities, academics, and media personalities.
The Religion of Climate Wrath is really just another sect of the broader religion of The Science.
When you hear Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau say he's “following The Science”, there is little doubt of his dedication. What's also obvious is his disgust with those who are not followers of The Science.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, Trudeau's favourite line was always, “We're following The Science and keeping Canadians safe.” What is implied in this phrase (and it's still one of his favourite things to say) is that Canadians are not capable of keeping themselves safe without the guidance of our High Priest and Priestess of the The Science who also happen to occupy the positions of Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister.
How grateful we should be that we can cast our cares on such worthy caretakers as these.
Lest you make the mistake of confusing “The Science” with actual science, let me just point out that an equally ridiculous assumption would be to call Tom Cruise a scientist.
Thank whatever god you like that we have freedom of religion in this country, but the other side of that coin is that we also are supposed to have freedom from religion (as in, from whatever religion you've not chosen to identify with). This is especially important when it's a religion that literally demands tithes on the air we breathe and forbids the use of the very fertilizers that make it possible for us to feed the world.
These kinds of things rarely end well, and are impossible to implement without an extremely faithful contingent of true believers. The Catholic Church (along with the rulers of the day, of course) discovered that the use of snitches was expedient in keeping people “honest”, and through effective propaganda, we now have our very own inquisition in the form of social media and public opinion - however uninformed that opinion may be.
I think I've been quite gracious throughout this short journey in my references to The Science Religion. A more accurate term is The Science Cult, or more specifically, the Climate Change Cult. As with most cults, their raison d'être is control and the enrichment of its leaders, and they will use any willing, useful idiots to accomplish those ends. By any metric, this “reason to be” is manifested in every commandment handed down from on high by those taking their orders from the gods at the IPCC and the prophets at the World Economic Forum. The one bright spot in all of this is that many of these useful idiots were elected by the very people who are now paying the price for their idiotic policies. This means that they can be just as easily unelected at the first opportune moment.
That's our job, and we can either do it, or allow these false prophets to lead us in the way of every other doomsday cult. Here's a hint: that way isn't going to lead you to a shining room in Greta's mansion. Likely Greta herself will be out as soon as she's outlived her usefulness, and you're still going to be on the hook for her “carbon footprint”, as well as that of the rest of the prophets, because that's not getting any smaller either.
Your inquisition, ladies and gentlemen.
